Known for writing YA fiction like The Speed of Falling Objects, Fischer debuts her first adult contemporary romance/mystery novel with ease. Sylvie Young is a rising star who uses her psychic abilities to provide closure to her audiences. Journalist Thomas Holmes has one chance to produce the story that will change his writing career, and he has embarked on a personal vendetta to expose psychic mediums as frauds. His main target is Sylvie. What he doesn’t realize is that Sylvie struggles with anxiety, has no memory of her life before her adoption at age six, and has deeply buried secrets. Together (as adversaries), they seek out the truth regarding her past, while Thomas hopes to expose Sylvie in the end. This story is about conquering personal faults and fears and accepting one’s sincerest self to truly be happy. Narrators Sarah Naughton and Pete Cross smoothly depict their characters’ feelings of guilt, anger, frustration, anxiety, admission, forgiveness, and ultimately, love.
