Still Life

This collection of images by floral artist Ly (photographer, Floral Libations) are dramatic and convey many emotions through visually simplistic but bold layouts. Although the subjects in the photographs are “still,” the images, against plain backgrounds, achieve the illusion of dynamic movement via super-saturated colors and high-definition sharpness. This approach allows the flowers to pop with color schemes that range from soft pastels to vivid brights. Depending on the mix of lighting and color, each photograph expresses a different vibe: peaceful, moody, intense, playful, or ultra-feminine. Some of the flower petals mimic billowing skirts and shirts, while others are reinterpretations of memento mori paintings. The book also incorporates colorful vintage-style glassware and table settings and adds a touch of whimsy, via socks and hosiery laden with fruit. Little to no captioning throughout the book keeps readers focused on interpreting the images in their own way.
