The Holy Terrors are back after their adventures on a ghost-hunting TV show. Alistair Kincaid, the youngest-ever bishop of All Souls Hollow, is once again teamed up with actress Diana Hunt, this time for a documentary program about an ancient stone circle (a subject in which Kincaid is an expert) on Sir Neville Chumley’s land in Chipping Amesbury. Chumley plans to restore the circle to its original glory, despite protests from the locals, who tell stories of people disappearing from near the stones, corpses found inside the circle, monsters, demons, and empty graves. While the TV crew is willing to sensationalize the local myths, Kincaid tries to debunk the stories. When an unidentified body is left inside the stone circle, Kincaid finds himself leading a murder investigation. Mysterious mists and footsteps contribute to a haunting atmosphere, and the TV crew members begin to get spooked by the old legends; two more deaths only increase the fear. It takes a bishop to find the human element behind the terror.
VERDICT The sequel to The Holy Terrors isn’t quite as frightening, but fans of Green’s Ishmael Jones mysteries will appreciate the supernatural elements.
