Comic book journeyman Fleecs and cartoonist Forstner (both of the graphic novel series “My Little Pony”) have concocted a strange and terrible tale made creepier by the cuteness of its characters. The protagonist, a dog named Sophie, has suddenly been thrown into a household of other rescued animals. Stunned and terrified, she is unable to remember the traumatic conditions under which she was taken and apparently adopted by her new master. Catching a whiff of a carelessly discarded scarf, Sophie recalls the horrific murder of her previous owner by the one she suspects is the new master of all the collected dogs. Is this a post-traumatic stress flashback or just a conjured-up false memory? Or perhaps, as Sophie insists, it is the reason all of these animals are hoarded into the home of this single, stern serial killer.
VERDICT This is a quality graphic novel with fine craftsmanship, good color, and a fresh plot that will appeal to all adult readers of comics. Forstner’s dogs are almost cartoon-like, looking like they could come from a children’s show, in spite of the rather adult content.
