A young Frenchwoman (codirector Bessis) is in New York City trying to make a name for herself in the art world as a videographer, away from Paris and her mother (Anne Consigny), a world-renowned artist herself. Lilas moves in temporarily with a young couple and their daughter, and it becomes apparent that they have their own problems. Leeward, the husband, is an unemployed musician who doesn't seem very motivated to use his talent to make money. His nurse wife, Mary, works long hours and yearns for a house in the suburbs. The film slowly reveals their lives and their dissatisfactions but not much else.
VERDICT This film would appeal to viewers who like slow-paced character studies.
