Alex Cooper becomes involved in the investigation into a mysterious homicide at the elegant Waldorf Astoria hotel after a young woman is found raped and murdered with unusual markings on her body. The discovery of another body with a similar symbol leads Alex and detectives to one of the most popular tourist attractions in New York City. The setting is even more captivating than the plot as the description of architectural and historical details of Grand Central Terminal provide the listener with a fascinating backdrop for the horrific crimes. Barbara Rosenblat does an excellent job of alternating among characters, especially admirable considering that other than Alex, most of the characters are male. Rosenblat perfectly captures detective and potential love interest Mike Chapman with a blue collar New York accent and sage friend and advisor Mercer Wallace's calm and soothing tones.
VERDICT Fairstein (Death Angel) turns out another solid thriller, although fans of the series may wish for a little more insight into Alex and her life when she is "off the clock."
