The Assassins of Thasalon

Sorcerer Learned Penric is enjoying life at home with his pregnant wife and daughter when his brother-in-law, General Adelis Arisaydia, is attacked. Simultaneously, the Cedonian Empire, along with its capital city of Thasalon, are in disarray after the death of its emperor and the resulting power struggle. Figuring Cedonia’s minister was behind the attack on Adelis, the brothers-in-law plan a two-pronged infiltration of Thasalon to support those who are ready to topple the minister and his allies. Penric never travels alone, paired as he is with Temple demon Desdemona, but he also brings the failed assassin and a speaker for their god—who has its own plans for Penric and his group. Political intrigue and fast-paced action are balanced with responsibility at multiple levels, and the witty dialogue of demon Desdemona is delightful.
