Written in 1908, this tale from Wallace (1875–1932) chronicles a group called the Four Just Men, who fight a vigilante war against international anarchists known as the Red Hundred in London. Led by the mysterious Woman of Gratz, the Red Hundred seek to overthrow the rulers of the day. The Four Just Men, with their wealth, intelligence, creativity, and ruthlessness, are all that stand between order and chaos. Reader Bill Homewood brings the necessary slightly overblown dramatic voice to this period piece. This is the second title written by Wallace featuring the Four Just Men (see Audio Reviews, LJ 9/1/11), but the work stands on its own and doesn't require listeners be familiar with the first volume to catch up. For those who enjoy radio crime thrillers heard late at night.—J. Sara Paulk, Wythe-Grayson Regional Lib., Independence, VA
