The Court of Shadows

Two-time winner of the Grand Prix de l’Imaginaire, a French literary prize for speculative fiction, Dixen (Collision) launches a new historical fantasy series. The Court of Shadows is an elite vampyre guild, and gaining entry is next to impossible, although there are several contenders. In this world, Louis XIV became Louis the Immutable, King of Shadows, and the first vampyre in history. With all of the intricacies of Castlevania, readers explore an alternate France where vampyres have taken over and are high nobility, while most humans are commoners. An inquisitor and his cronies break into young Jeanne’s house, suspecting her commoner family of rebellion, and murder her parents and one of her brothers. Only Jeanne and her brother Bastien survive. They flee to temporary safety until entanglements with Bastien’s significant other get Jeanne shipped off to a vampyre court, where she seeks revenge and must figure out how to get out of the labyrinth she now finds herself in.
