The Domain

Eisner Award–winning Zdarsky (Public Domain) chronicles the trials and travails of a family as they attempt to reboot an iconic comic book character created by their father. Zdarsky and Stott (Star Trek, Vol. 2: The Red Path) unite to present the story the aforementioned family is laboring to create. The plot centers around three best friends who come across a crashed UFO and gain access to technology that grants them incredible superhuman abilities. The twist is that only one of them can wield the powers at a time, setting up a tense dynamic that puts their long-held friendship to the test, just as a gang of vicious extraterrestrials begin scouring the Earth to find them. Zdarsky’s script leans into classic superhero tropes without sacrificing any of the humor and emotional complexity readers of his past work may expect. His character work especially shines, making the emotional and interpersonal struggles of the central trio feel grounded and relatable, despite the sci-fi setting. Stott’s illustration delivers both kinetic action sequences and quiet character moments with vibrancy and dynamism.
