Forensic detective Barbara Atkins is sent to desolate and frigid Deadhart, AK, to investigate a murder that may be a vampyre slaying—a boy was found with his throat ripped out and all the blood drained from his body. The town’s residents suspect members of the Colony, an ostracized community of vampyres. Atkins’s investigation is spine chilling and brutal. Multiple storylines carry readers along on a breakneck journey that begs not to be put down, providing a heady mix of escapism and thrills. The vampires are entertaining and original, and the main character is delightfully mundane. Tudor spins a web of plot lines in which it is a pleasure to be caught. The novel is well written and propulsive, with Tudor staying at the top of her game.
