The debate over creationism vs. evolution remains alive and well. Evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, however, has only one opinion, that evolution is unquestionable. According to Dawkins, evidence that the universe evolved much as Charles Darwin theorized in the mid-19th century is overwhelmingly sound and thus debunks all other theories. Dawkins, an atheist, backs his position with archaeological evidence and convincing commentary filmed on three continents. While Dawkins traveled widely for this documentary, probably the most compelling portion is the segment in which he teaches a class of skeptical adolescent science students close to his home in England. After a field trip to find and examine fossils in Dorset, the students begin to question their closely held beliefs about the origin of our species. Herein lies the primary value of this outstanding miniseries, which aired on BBC in 2008: it makes the viewer think. Also of value are the biographical details of Darwin's life and the bonus material, meaty interviews with professionals whose perspectives differ from Dawkins's. Highly recommended for academic libraries and reservedly recommended for secondary schools. [Extras at www.athenalearning.com.]—Diane Kazlauskas, Univ. of North Florida Lib., Jacksonville
