In this book, Fletcher, a nutritional therapy practitioner and founder of Karpós Wellness, offers a biblical and faith-based approach to whole-body health. She asserts that diet culture has left many people feeling ashamed and with an unhealthy relationship with food. She argues, however, that God provides food to fuel people’s bodies, so readers should view their meals as nutritional and divine gifts. She believes that God will meet readers where they are and help them. She urges readers to eat whole foods, to focus on their gut health, and to avoid sugar and the toxins in processed foods, as most books about healthy living and weight loss do. But the book also blends anti-diet rhetoric with thinly veiled suggestions to restrict, eliminate, or otherwise fall into nutritional trends related to the gut microbiome, toxins, and fasting.
VERDICT Most of the recommendations offered in this book are not new to readers concerned about their weight and health. But this title packages wellness culture as a virtue, which could be dangerous if readers do not also seek help from medical professionals.
