Phillips brings back some familiar characters in her latest romance. Lucy Jorik, the daughter of the former president, leaves her perfect fiancé at the altar and runs away from her elaborate wedding. Conveniently, a man waits on a motorcycle to whisk her off and help her hide from the press and her family. Panda, the biker, shelters Lucy for a time, but when he leaves her at the airport, she disguises herself as a teenaged Goth and goes to his Lake Michigan home instead.
VERDICT Phillips’s many fans will forgive the somewhat overstuffed plot as all loose ends are tied up en route to the inevitable happy ending. Other listeners may want to pass on this title, despite its professional and competent narration by actress Shannon Cochran. [“With brilliant dialog, sassy humor, and laserlike insight into what makes people tick, Phillips gifts readers with an engrossing, beautifully written romance that satisfies on all levels. Another winner from a stellar writer who never disappoints,” read the starred and more forgiving review of the Morrow hc, LJ 6/15/12.—Ed.]
