Beth and Matt, a married couple in New York, find their lives changing when Matt accepts a job working on a campaign in Washington, DC. Beth finds Washington—the people, the roads, and everything about it—just awful. Then she meets Texas couple Jimmy and Ashleigh Dillon. Jimmy also has political aspirations, and he and Matt become fast friends. However, when Jimmy's political career begins to take off and Matt's remains stagnant, tensions begin to rise. The stereotypical philandering politician and the miscommunication between Beth and Matt will drive listeners crazy. Jorjeana Marie capably differentiates among the players. Close (
Girls in White Dresses) does an adequate job with the character development, but the plot is a bit lackluster.
VERDICT Patrons who enjoy behind-the-scenes accounts of fictional political campaigns will want to pick this up.
