Michael Page gives a wry, sardonic reading of this thriller, which was first published in 1972 under Higgins's nom de plume, James Graham. Freelance pilot Jack Nelson tells the story of how he found himself on the hunt for hidden treasure in Algeria's Khufra swamp, which began one evening when a woman named Claire Bouvier ran in front of his jeep—naked! Nelson's best buddy and former Vietnam comrade, Harry Turk, joins the quest, which brings the trio into the sights of one nasty Colonel Taleb and his local security troops.
VERDICT Page's reading is quite close to a perfect match of text and voice. His pacing, intonation, and energy quickly draw listeners into the tale and hold them until the end.
