The Miniaturist

After Petronella "Nella" Oortman enters into an arranged marriage with wealthy merchant Johannes Brandt, she discovers everyone in the Brandt household seems to be keeping a secret. When Johannes gives Nella a dollhouse replicating their own home as a wedding gift, the mysteries multiply as Nella begins receiving strange items for her miniature house that seem to predict the fate of those living in the real abode. Based on the best-selling 2015 novel of the same name by Jessie Burton, this new historical drama from PBS is as exquisitely crafted as the miniature house and its diminutive furnishings. From the subtly nuanced performances by Anya Taylor-Joy (Nella) and her fellow castmates to the beautifully realized settings and impeccably rendered costumes that bring 17th-century Amsterdam vividly to life, everything about this production is top-notch.
