Savannah Peachwood and Sebastian York narrate the first in Grant’s (“Copper Valley Fireballs” series) enemies-to-lovers contemporary romance series. High society clashes with a small Midwestern town, when the Lightly family descends upon Tickled Pink, WI. Surviving a near-death experience, Phoebe’s grandmother decides the family must change their ways. Much to the family’s dismay, she claims the best place to do that is in a close-knit community made famous by an old movie. Worried about the possibility of paparazzi following behind them, Tickled Pink’s resident curmudgeon, Teague Miller, is less than pleased with the upper-crust interlopers’ arrival. Yet even though Phoebe doesn’t belong there, he can’t help wishing she did. Narrating from Phoebe’s and Teague’s points of view, prolific narrators Peachwood and York give voice to the story’s main protagonists. Peachwood’s performance changes throughout the production, aurally illustrating Phoebe’s transition from an uptight, entitled socialite into a more kind and accepting person; however, Peachwood adds a slightly whining tone to Phoebe’s voice as the character’s outlook on life changes. She easily differentiates between the characters. York’s performance of Teague brings the gruff outdoorsman to life, though weak voices for female characters may distract the listener.
VERDICT Purchase where additional contemporary romances are needed.
