Francie arrives in Roswell, NM, during their annual UFO convention to be maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding—her duty being to help Serena talk herself out of marrying this guy who truly believes in aliens. But Francie’s abduction by an actual tumbleweed-shaped alien with tentacles, who is desperate to go somewhere and can only communicate by pointing, results in a comedy of errors. As events unfold, Francie falls in love with the last person she could have ever expected.
E.T. meets
Stagecoach in this wild romp of a laugh-out-loud tale that shows the power of friendship and the downright silly things that people will talk themselves into. Francie is the voice of both rationality and compassion as she lets an alien lead a motley crew of abductees turned abettors on a chase that cons both local and alien law enforcers into doing the right thing.
VERDICT Recommended for readers of humorous SF, especially those who loved the author’s previous lighthearted books, such as Bellwether and To Say Nothing of the Dog.
