Max and Annie Kingsley have embarked on a surprising new career—running a luxury glamping business at a site overlooking the Atlantic in Cornwall, England. They invite a group of old friends and their families to beta-test the campsite before the official opening. As the group settles in, the mothers leave the fathers in charge of the children, and the fathers send the children off on their own. When one of the children goes missing, the Kingsleys’ adopted son, Kip, falls under suspicion. The search for the missing child quickly becomes perilous as a bad storm hits the area, leaving the group without power or cell phone service. Narrators Beth Eyre and Jamie Parker capture the group’s growing stress, complicated by past misunderstandings and long-held secrets. The chaos mounts, and before long it seems like everyone is a suspect. Although Eyre and Parker provide a variety of voices and dialects, listeners might occasionally struggle to keep track of the many personalities.
VERDICT A perfect fit for those who enjoy untangling the threads in a closed-circle mystery. Recommended for fans of Ruth Ware and Lucy Foley.
