When Cara, recovering from recent heartbreak, misses the bus back to London after being co-opted by her best friends into going on a volunteer trip, she also misses getting the number of a very cute man—Henry—with whom she had connected. Luckily, Cara’s event-planning job brings her right back into Henry’s path during a lawyers’ event a few weeks later. Their instant attraction turns into an immediate love affair, with Henry ready to jump into the chaos of Cara’s African and Caribbean family, who are still upset that she broke up with her ex. As Cara discovers that Henry’s family is more posh, rich, and titled than she could ever have imagined and as her ex comes back into her life, can she and Henry stay together, or will real life tear them apart?
VERDICT Listeners may be frustrated by the somewhat undeveloped characters and uneven plotting, but Williams’s (Imperfect Arrangements) latest is enlivened by Remmie Miller’s lovely and smooth narration. A fine, if nonessential, listen for library patrons who enjoyed Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones’s Diary.
