Horticulturalist/plant designer Semmler’s latest book (after
Super Bloom: A Field Guide to Flowers for Every Gardener) focuses on maximizing one’s gardening space and the bloom potential of its plants. The book features more than 40 plants that are considered easy growers, with useful charts for each plant that detail the best growing conditions, plant varietals, companion plants, and whether they’re suitable for containers. Each chart is accompanied by gorgeous full-color pictures of the plants. There are also tips on which plants are best for pollinators and which ones are edible. The book includes information to help with successful seeding, cutting, and planting. The author is Australian, so a few of the words might be unfamiliar to readers; for example, “punnet” is the word she uses for a flat or seed tray. But every plant listed is easily accessible for most gardeners, no matter where they live.
VERDICT A great gardening addition to collections. For gardeners, beginners, too, looking to maximize returns on their space.
