Craft’s previous volume, The Unofficial Disney Parks Restaurants Cookbook, gave readers a taste of their favorite treats from Disney theme parks, and she’s again served up memorable, magical recipes, this time for Purple Saber Funnel Cakes, River Styx Elixir, Mickey Mouse–shaped hot dog buns, Wookie cookies, champagne beignets, and much more. She decided to write the cookbook after celebrating her son’s birthday at Disneyland with a Cars-themed extravaganza; her aim was to make these experiences accessible even outside the parks. Recipe headnotes explain when the parks serve these treats and how they’re connected to different traditions, and some contain tips from Disney chefs about preparation and presentation.
VERDICT While Disney theme parks may have more costumed characters and sparkly ball gowns than the average dining room, Craft demonstrates that magic can happen in any home with enough imagination, a sense of fun, and maybe a Minnie Mouse bundt cake or a glittery, guava-flavored Pride lunch box tart, washed down with some green tea horchata or a vanilla gelato– and strawberry Fanta–spiked “love potion.”
