The third book in Quinn’s (Reluctant Roommates) “Sierra’s Web” series is a secret-child, second-chance romance story. As teens, Hudson Warner and Amanda Smith met in a group home, where their friendship eventually became something more. Upon receiving a full ride to college, however, Hud left Amanda behind, cutting off all contact. Fourteen years later, a distraught Amanda contacts tech expert Hud to help her find her missing daughter, Hope. As the two desperately search for the girl, Amanda reveals her longest-held secret. Can Hud forgive her, and—if they safely find Hope—do they really have a chance of being a true family together?
VERDICT Fans of the series will want to read Hud’s story, but it also works as a stand-alone. Though the suspense will keep reader engrossed for much of the book, the bulk of the relationship- and family-building work takes place in a mere few pages, making the happily-ever-after feel more tacked on than inevitable.
