Rogers and Roosen’s third installment in the “Yoga Mat Mysteries” series (following
Cobra Pose) takes listeners to the island state of Tasmania, where, once again, danger awaits. Hoping for a relaxing vacation and a chance to take their relationship to the next level, Elaina and Ric depart for Tasmania. There, Ric’s mysterious past comes back to haunt him as two assassins pursue him for perceived wrongs. Ric had hoped to open up to Elaina about his past, but he is terrified of her reaction, and with the killers fast on their heels, the timing couldn’t be worse. Series narrator Rupert Degas is at the top of his game, offering spot-on character voices and outstanding accents for the varied cast. In particular, listeners will be happy to hear more of fan-favorite Detective Inspector Jack McMasters, whose no-nonsense demeanor and witty quips continue to delight. While there is plenty of action, it is the quieter aspects of the book that shine, including tender moments between Ric and Elaina and a moving portrayal of Katya, a teen who has been forcibly transported by human traffickers.
VERDICT An entertaining, superbly narrated audio mystery for those seeking action, intrigue, and romance.
