In love in high school, Mira and Tyler have spent the handful of years since graduation trying to forget each other. After a love affair goes wrong, Tyler is back in his Tahoe hometown, struggling to get back on his feet. Mira is there, too, buried under the weight of family obligation and just trying to stay afloat. When her burdens go from bad to worse, Mira finds herself temporarily living with Tyler and taking a job with the shady Blue Casino for the better pay. The duo will quickly realize that fighting each other is only delaying the inevitable.
VERDICT The disreputable dealings at the Blue Casino continue in the third outing of Barnard's series (after Deep Blue and Blue Crush). Mira and Tyler, while hot together, suffer individually from a few undeveloped threads that would have rounded out the characters. Still, the new wrinkles revealed about the casino are a real surprise and will keep series readers interested and wanting to know more.
