This title is somewhat different from the usual “complete” sewing book in that it is aimed not at the beginner, but at those who are ready to move beyond the basics. As such it fills a long-felt need, including illustrated step-by-step directions for making a classic (not basic) shirt, blouse, sheath dress, and blazer, complete with padding, interfacing, and other necessary structural elements. There is an entire chapter on pants, starting with how to determine the most flattering style for your individual body. Includes full details for sleeves, collars, facings, pockets, hems, buttonholes, and linings. In addition, and perhaps the best part, is full treatment of making a muslin: What it is, why it is important, and how to use it to adjust any pattern to fit perfectly. This is something that rarely appears in other ostensibly complete guides.
VERDICT Altogether a necessary addition to any sewing collection.
