Undrafted: Hockey, Family, and What It Takes To Be a Pro

For Kypreos, the son of Greek immigrants to Canada, playing hockey was not a foregone conclusion, but a reality that he learned he had to fight for to make happen. And fight he did, literally, as he built a solid NHL career as a tough guy or “enforcer” with four different teams, including winning a Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers in 1994. A horrific injury in 1997 ended his playing career and was part of the catalyst for study of violence and concussions in hockey. It also opened a door for Kypreos to become a sports journalist when he was hired as a hockey analyst for the new all-sports network Sportsnet. Applying the same skills of perseverance, teamwork, and not taking anything for granted that he developed as a player, he built a highly respected career as a radio and TV voice for Canadian hockey.
