St. John’s (
A Game Between Friends) entry into this long-running multi-author series (whose most recent installment was Nadine Gonzalez’s
Rivalry at Play) features plenty of the small-town and community feeling that readers are used to while also allowing her characters some vacation freedom. Natalie Hastings can’t escape that she accidentally told the entire town about her feelings for Jonathan Lattimore, a man who has no desire to be in a relationship of any kind. When they meet by chance on vacation, they begin a no-strings-attached fling. Readers will root for Natalie’s happy ending and want Jonathan to become a man truly worthy of her esteem. Jonathan undergoes a transformation in the book, and his gradual acceptance of the true depth of his feelings will delight.
VERDICT An enjoyable, if standard, entry of this series that will charm readers.
