Nutrition researcher Stevens (12 Effective Ways To Help Your ADD/ADHD Child) has spent her career examining the relationship between diet and health disorders. Physician Walker is known for helping children with moderate to severe behavioral disorders. Their book focuses on helping children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, and autism, via complementary approaches in four areas: lifestyle, nutrition, environment, and (where applicable) helpful programs and devices. It includes questionnaires designed to help parents gain more insight into the struggles their child faces, describes typical treatments, and explains how to find a good healthcare provider, all with the caveat that BIPOC children with these conditions often face health care inequities and implicit bias.
VERDICT Not comprehensive, but a great starter manual for families with a newly diagnosed child, especially those seeking natural treatments, traditional therapy approaches, and/or effective medications.
