Mike St. Claire has spent the years since his wife's death focused on raising his daughter, Annalise, instead of his dreams about racing cars again. When an offer to help manage a team comes his way, Mike is ready to take the chance but needs help with caring for his child. Enter Franchesca, who is barely breaking even with her drama studio and knows the extra income will help her ailing mother. The couple's connection is instant, but both try to put that aside to realize their own visions for the future. Life sends a few curves, however, and they may realize their individual hopes have changed. Van Hulzen's second entry in the series (after
A Recipe for Romance) does a satisfying job of providing depth and background for characters in the novella format.
VERDICT Mike and Franchesca are fully realized and have a well-developed tension as they circle each other throughout the story. More time spent with Franchesca and Annalise would have been appreciated but only to help cement Franchesca's later decisions. A sweet romance to continue the series.
