True crime writer Lucas Graham is at the end of his rope. His wife is about to leave him, he hasn't had a best seller in a decade, and he can barely make ends meet. So when he is contacted by Jeffrey Halcomb, the notorious cult leader and mass murderer on death row, he can't refuse Jeffrey's offer. In exchange for an exclusive interview, Lucas must live in the house where Jeffrey's crime took place. Lucas travels with his daughter across the country, but when he goes to meet Jeffrey, Lucas is turned away. Struggling to find the truth behind this killer, the cult, and the ten victims, Lucas begins to investigate. This novel has a slow, deliberate pace, sometimes using flashbacks to provide the reader with a hint of things to come. R.C. Bray's reading keeps true to the tone of the work.
VERDICT Fans of horror will find this an interesting listen; it will be accessible to those new to the genre as well.
