Quilters know that paper-piecing produces the most accurate blocks and sharpest points. By adding a lightbox to the set of basic tools featured in this book, Taylor, a quilt pattern designer, goes a step further to ensure good results. Her book’s templates are for creating flowers, birds, bees, butterflies, bugs, and other garden life onto five-inch, paper-pieced quilting blocks. This gorgeous book includes a handy resizing chart that takes having to do math calculations out of the equation when quilters want other sizes ranging from three to 12 inches. A little extra effort is needed to alter the seams when the templates are resized, but this is nicely explained. One block makes a nice wall hanging, but several sampler projects are suggested. The presented options can lead to nearly an endless variety of quilts. The fabric choices in the illustrations sometimes mimic reality; other times, they’re highly imaginative, but that just lets quilters know that they can go in many directions.
VERDICT These patterns provide countless hours of entertainment and many beautiful quilts. Some of these designs are available for purchase through the author’s website, but everything presented in this highly recommended book is a real bargain.
