The iconic Ann Arbor, MI,
Zingerman’s Bakehouse offers a new cookbook, after Zingerman’s Bakehouse, themed around the importance of celebrating special days with food. Organized by season (spring, summer, fall, winter), in which several occasions for celebration are listed and paired with recipes. Multiple Jewish and Christian holidays are included, along with U.S. national holidays and some fun but unexpected occasions (National Grilled Cheese Day, Pi Day, a snow day). Many of the recipes are for the tempting items sold at the bakehouse or taught in their baking classes. There’s a range of sweet and savory items, with the focus on baked goods, but salad, spreads, and several soups round out the offerings. The photos are beautifully styled and photographed. While this will likely appeal most to experienced bakers, the instructions are clear, and the resources and “Techniques & Diagrams” sections at the end of the book offer helpful information to anyone unfamiliar with terms used or how to fold dough or twist a pretzel.
VERDICT Fans of the bakery will be excited about this latest offering, and bakers will appreciate their delicious takes on seasonal offerings.
