In 2004, the Southwark Council, the governing body of a borough of South London, England, along with Edwards Bike Shop, approached popular DJ CK Flash with a proposal that CK lead the creation of a BMX bike track on abandoned land in Peckham, perhaps the most deprived inner-city area in England. Through the hard work of CK and others, by 2008 the Peckham BMX Club became one of the best in England. The club survived the 2011 riots in Peckham and neighboring Camberwell and managed to send riders to the 2012 World BMX Championships in Birmingham. This terrific film covers the club from its inception to members Tre Whyte and Quillan Isidore competing in the 2012 race. VERDICT This inspiring story, a triumph of grit and training over poverty and gang violence, is told through interviews, exciting riding sequences, and rap music; highly recommended for adult sports video collections.—Cliff Glaviano, formerly with Bowling Green State Univ.
