Historical romance is always popular, and several upcoming titles are adding new twists to the subgenre, which should appeal to readers who’ve already sped through the entire Bridgerton series. A Gamble at Sunset (Zebra) by Vanessa Riley turns all convention on its head for the first in an enchanting, dazzling new Regency romance trilogy featuring a duke, three sisters, and a tantalizing bet with a most desirable reward. In the delightfully witty Victorian adventure Never Blow a Kiss (Forever) by Lindsay Lovise, the first in “The Secret Society of Governess Spies” series, a governess spy running away from her past falls for an ex-soldier turned railroad magnate. Another Victorian romance, Don’t Want You Like a Best Friend (Avon) by Emma Alban, features two debutantes who distract themselves from having to seek husbands by setting up their widowed parents, and instead find their perfect match in each other—it's the lesbian Bridgerton/Parent Trap crossover you never knew you needed. The Love Remedy (Berkley) by Elizabeth Everett is the launch of “The Damsels of Discovery” series. In this novel, Victorian apothecary Lucinda hires stoic, grumpy private investigator Jonathan to protect her business, and as they work side by side to unmask a scientific saboteur, she slips under his guard, tempting him to abandon old promises. Lenora Bell’s You’re the Duke That I Want (Avon) puts a Victorian twist to a classic film in this Grease-inspired rom-com about an innocent lady who clashes with a sexy, hard-riding rake.
