Reagan Arthur, previously Little, Brown Senior VP and Publisher, was named Executive VP and Publisher of Knopf, Pantheon, and Shocken following the death of Sonny Mehta, Knopf Editor-in-Chief and Chairman of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group.
The State Board of Education of Ohio recently appointed Janet Carleton to the State Library Board. Since 2005, Janet has been the Digital Initiatives Coordinator for Ohio University Libraries, where she is responsible for digitization, digital preservation, and social media promotion of the Libraries’ unique resources.
The Charlevoix Public Library, MI, has announced the appointment of Ryan Deery, most recently Director of the Allegan District Library, as its new Director. He will replace Linda Adams, who left the position to become the Director of the Northland Library Cooperative.
Kasia Gonnerman, currently Director of Vanderbilt University’s Central Library, Nashville, has been selected as the next dean of Libraries at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, effective April 1. Gonnerman will succeed John Meador, who announced his intent to retire in 2019. Jeffrey Graveline, Associate Dean for Research and Instructional Services, is serving as Interim Dean until Gonnerman’s arrival.
The Board of Trustees of the Bridges Library System, Waukesha, WI, has selected Karol Kennedy, Library Director at the Menomonee Falls Public Library, WI, as the new System Director. She will succeed Connie Meyer, who is retiring in March.
Tonia Kestner has been appointed the new Executive Director of Bristol Public Library, VA, after nine years of managing the Glade Spring branch of the Washington County Public Library System, VA. Kestner succeeds Amy Kimani, who left the library in 2019 to become Regional Director of the Holston River Regional Library in Johnson City, TN.
Dallas Long, Associate Dean of Illinois State University’s Milner Library since 2014, has been named Dean. He succeeds Shari Zeck, who served as Interim Dean of the library during the search.
Polly Thistlethwaite, Chief Librarian at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center since 2011, will join the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs in March to head the Office of Library Services as Interim University Dean for Library Services.
John E. Ulmschneider, Dean of Libraries and University Librarian at Virginia Commonwealth University, has been named the 2020 Association of College and Research Libraries’ (ACRL) Academic/Research Librarian of the Year.
The George Mason University Libraries, Fairfax, VA, have hired several new faculty members: Ashley Blinstrub has been appointed to the position of Student Success and Inclusion Librarian; Melanie Bopp has been appointed to the position of Head, Access Services; Michael Hunter has been appointed to the position of Resource Sharing Librarian; Dorothee Schubel has been appointed to the position of Metadata and Cataloging Librarian; and David Lemmons has been appointed to the position of Instruction Coordinator.
