While romance is published all year long, there’s no doubt that February is an apropos month to highlight the genre's many pleasures. Here are but a few new titles to try (including a RUSA Reading List winner).
While romance is published all year long, there’s no doubt that February is an apropos month to highlight the genre's many pleasures. Here are but a few new titles to try (including a RUSA Reading List winner). Also look for the latest from Christine Feehan, Sophie Kinsella, Lisa Kleypas, Susan Mallery, and Sally Thorne, due out this month and on the horizon.
- Nightchaser by Amanda Bouchet (Sourcebooks Casablanca).
Bouchet moves from the mythic realms of historical fantasy romance to sf romance with her newest series launch, featuring a heroic space captain on the run and a sexy mechanic with secrets to keep. This first book features all the hallmarks that made her debut trilogy, “The Kingmaker Chronicles,” such a winner.
- Once Ghosted, Twice Shy by Alyssa Cole (Avon Impulse).
This novella picks up a story line from Cole's “Reluctant Royals” series, bringing the characters Likotsi and Fabiola to center stage. The two women have a past history to fix—and a future, if they can find it. The third installment in Cole's historical “Loyal League” series, An Unconditional Freedom, also publishes this month.
- Duchess by Deception by Marie Force (Zebra: Kensington).
With his title resting on marriage, the Duke of Westwood usefully encounters a woman digging up his estate. She’s a welcome addition to his life but comes with her own agenda, and he has more than a garden's worth of problems, too. Those who know Force from her contemporary and romantic suspense novels will relish this historical debut.
- Unmarriageable by Soniah Kamal (Ballantine).
Through her richly detailed and reimagined Pride and Prejudice set in contemporary Pakistan, Kamal provides longtime Austen fans something new and wonderful to dive into, and for those only familiar with the story line, a winning tale to savor. A January LibraryReads Pick.
- Intercepted by Alexa Martin (Berkley).
The winner of the 2019 ALA Reading List Romance category, Martin’s first book in the “Playbook” series showcases the appeal of sports romances, as a woman burned by a player gets tangled up with another NFL star. This debut will be followed up by Fumbled in April.
