Not in Love by Ali Hazelwood (Berkley) is the top holds title of the week. LibraryReads and Library Journal offer read-alikes for patrons waiting to read this buzziest book.

Hazelwood blends business and STEM after her paranormal Bride. Rue works as a biotech engineer at Kline, a hot start-up born, so she thinks, from the mind of a woman she has long admired. She has built a good life doing good work, and that focus has gone a long way to help her overcome challenging childhood issues—even as her brother’s distressing and dangerous behavior casts a pall. Meanwhile, Eli, along with an avenging and motivated group of friends, have designs on Kline and strong reasons to take Rue’s boss down. The couple first meet via an anonymous hook-up that gets derailed and then again as Eli and his friends begin to take over the company. Tossed together as antagonists, their chemistry supports both a steamy-tense relationship and a business showdown. As Rue learns more about Eli and his plans, and Eli makes multiple moves, they face a difficult reality: few outcomes are going to be harm-free. VERDICT Hazelwood fills the plot with tension and stress and employs a dual point-of-view that allows intimate access to both Rue and Eli’s roller-coasting emotions. It is less quirky-charming than some of her past work but showcases much of what her readers love.—Neal Wyatt

“Dr. Corrie’s professional dream has come true: she’s been invited on an archaeological dig to uncover an Aztec mystery. But there’s one big catch. Her longtime rival, Dr. Ford, is the lead on the expedition. As they become better acquainted, their animosity transforms into an undeniable attraction—that is, until the truth behind Ford's motivations comes to light. Will they be able to find their happily ever after? This thrilling and steamy debut will appeal to fans of adventurous romances.”—Migdalia Jimenez, Chicago Public Library, IL

Savor It by Tarah DeWitt (St. Martin's Griffin)

Appeared on the May 2024 LibraryReads list

“This Pacific Northwest romcom has delicious tension from the first interaction. Add in fake dating and a steamy scene in a library, and who could ask for more? Readers will appreciate how much attention and care DeWitt put into creating fully-formed characters grappling with grief, chasing dreams, and figuring out how to live in the moment.”—Ebby Bowles, Hingham Public Library, MA

The Long Game by Elena Armas (Atria; LJ starred review)

Appeared on the September 2023 LibraryReads list

“Adalyn needs a hug, not that she'll ever admit it. Exiled to tiny Green Oak, North Carolina after a very public breakdown, she's forced to examine her life—and of course, falls in love along the way. Armas hits all the right emotional notes and the slow burn is delicious. Pick this one up if you like small-town romance, love interests who actually talk to each other, and female leads who can handle their stuff.”—Amanda Baumann, JCL Northwest, MO
