TWIL #101: Cyling for Libraries (Jukka Pennanen & Mace Ojala) from
Jaap van de Geer on
Vimeo. Dear Subscribers and Viewers,
Episode 101 is recorded in front of the
TUDelft Library, one of the most beautiful University Libraries in the world. In this episode we talk with some good friends and colleagues from Finland, who for the third time have managed to accomplish an extraordinary get together of librarians around the world. Jukka Pennanen and Mace Ojala are the proud owners of the idea of an international unconference on wheels known as
Cycling for Libraries. This year the group of more than 100 librarians cycled 400km in the Netherlands and Belgium from Amsterdam, to The Hague to Delft, Gent, and the European Parliament in Brussels. The idea behind this trip is to get librarians out of their libraries and offices and away from powerpoint presentations and to come to new ideas in a more engaging, productive, innovative way, which is a lot more fun. During the show we talk about deconstructing the conference model, worries about the future of innovation in libraries and investing social energy. We also talk about plans for next year and how the guys find the time and energy to make this all happen.
