Dear Subscribers and Viewers: For episode 99 we are back at DOK, the famous Library Concept Center in Delft, the Netherlands. In the last episode we had the pleasure of talking to Dan Cohen, Director of DPLA ( Digital Public Library of America ) about DPLA, copyright, free access, and business models, and on how to bring a vast—and still rapidly growing—digital collection to the users. In episode 99 we take you from America to Africa, and to another great project that brings library services, both digital and physical, to the fast developing continent. During the show we talk with David Dewane about his Librii project, by which he seeks to built libraries in Ghana. David is an architect with Gensler and a visiting professor at Catholic University in Washington, DC. In 2010 he founded Librii with seed funding from the World Bank Institute. We talk about the challenges of building self-sustaining libraries in Africa and making use of fiber optic broadband, but also about finding a new Carnegie model and understanding new information needs.
