DePaul University, Chicago, on February 1 announced the appointment of Scott Walter as its new university librarian, effective April 30. He now serves as the associate university librarian for services and the associate dean of libraries at the University of Illinois (UI) at Urbana-Champaign. Walter has previously been assistant dean of libraries for information and instructional services at the University of Kansas, and interim assistant director of libraries for public services and outreach at Washington State University. He also serves on the editorial boards of College & Research Libraries and ACRL Publications in Librarianship. In 2008, Walter wrote an article for LJ (“The Library as Ecosystem,” LJ 10/1/08, p. 28-30) on the “quickly changing professional landscape of the academic library.” “I welcome the opportunity to join the DePaul community at a unique time in its history and to lead its libraries in building a vision of library and information services that meets the needs of a 21st-century academic community dedicated to teaching, learning, scholarship and service,” Walter said in the announcement.
