Lochhead’s (founder/creative director, the Crafty Kit Company) book is one of two of the latest additions (with
All-New Twenty: Rock Art) to the popular “All-New Twenty To Make” series. The book demonstrates how felt flowers can be put in a vase, arranged to make centerpieces, added to wreaths, and more. There’s a list of the required tools crafters will need to do the basics. That includes felt fabric, of course, plus florist wire and tape, glue, and a good pair of scissors. Readers will learn they need other tools if they want to make multiples of the same flower, and there’s a list for that too. The book provides instructions on how to use chalk pastels to give depth to the projects. Lochhead says gluing short lengths of thin wire behind larger petals will help shape and arrange them, just as one would do with real flowers. Each project—and there’s an array of flowers and plants to make—has a list of materials and step-by-step instructions on how to turn precise pattern pieces into floral magic.
VERDICT A small but mighty book filled with felt flower projects that will boost the confidence of first-time crafters.
