On the set of a made-for-TV movie in the isolated hills of California, an unknown assassin is killing unsuspecting victims with a compound bow. The cast and crew of the low-budget film are all bottom-feeders—qualified professional actors and crew who are either just starting out or past their prime; they all work cheap and are just trying to scratch out a living. The characters, including alcoholic director Eddie, vulnerable camera assistant Sheila, self-centered actor Tom, and spurned sheriff's deputy Sondra, are well developed and have interesting backstories. Add a forest fire that forces an evacuation, and this mystery becomes a page-turner. Bronson Pinchot is a magnificent narrator.
VERDICT This book is a real pleasure, offering a great plot, a unique look into the entertainment industry, and wonderful characters.
