With this fourth and final installment in her “Lovelight” series (following
Mixed Signals), Borison offers an enemies-to-lovers, small-town romance about tattoo artist Nova Porter and investment banker Charlie Milford. Nova is about to open her tattoo studio in her hometown of Inglewood, MD. Meanwhile, Charlie is in town to watch over Lovelight Farms while his sister is on her honeymoon. Nova isn’t looking for a relationship, but she can’t seem to get Charlie out of her head. So she proposes a one-night-only hookup that lasts longer than either expects. Pippa Jayne, who also performs the three previous books in the series, entertains with her expressive delivery and skillfully crafted character voices. She handily communicates the characters’ personalities, especially Charlie’s sunny likeability. With a slightly raspy voice, Benjamin D. Walker gives Charlie’s voice a subtle, sexy quality that’s absent from Jayne’s portrayal. His delivery of Charlie’s inner thoughts, most notably during the steamy scenes, will have listeners fanning themselves from the heat. Unfortunately, most other characters have very similar voices, with little to distinguish them from one another.
VERDICT Though there’s some unevenness between the narrators, fans of the series’ previous audiobooks should enjoy this satisfying series finale.
