This brilliant piece is the first new English translation in 50 years of Marx’s classic text; it’s the only one based on the last German edition revised by Marx himself. Divided into seven parts and 25 chapters, this book contains extensive and scholarly annotations by Reitter (German languages and literature, Ohio State Univ.; coauthor, Permanent Crisis) and North (German, Yale Univ.; The Yield). One of the most fascinating elements of this edition is the inclusion of the list of sources cited by Marx that informed and influenced his 1867 composition and 1872 revision of the text. This work contains complex arguments, theories, and worldviews, but the editors’ extensive and extremely detailed notes help tremendously in explaining Marx’s concepts, even the most complicated passages.
