Nineteen-year-old Kat Roberts is an American student at Cambridge. She meets 25-year-old Tristan Kingsley, the son of an earl. Both are very close to one parent, while the other parent is absent. They meet cute, and Tristan decides he must have Kat, even though historically his ways are rakish. She has problems with his playboy past, which the British newspapers enjoy publicizing. However, he is truly taken with her, and Kat succumbs. Other surprises of a matrimonial bent follow.
VERDICT This first installment in a new trilogy by Smith (Tempted by a Rogue) is unfortunately without tension as the series title gives away the conflict. And that's too bad, because the story is compelling, the sex is hot, and the characters are interesting. One hopes the setup is worth the rest of the series (Seduction and Climax).
