Daphne Walter’s first semester at college is positively ectoplasmic. With an evil ghoul banished, the atmosphere of Rycroft Manor is once again safe for explorations both ghostly and romantic. Daphne’s former high school crush Ronnie, the only other human allowed in the haunted house, has a burgeoning affair brewing with sensitive spirit Bernard. But will Ronnie’s desire for a normal college life interrupt their ardent relationship? Spectral Shirley, depressed from past heartache and missing her family terribly, asks housemother Agi to perform a spell to separate her from the world of the living forever. Childhood best friend Kristi decides to reconnect with Daphne at college, but her emotional neediness could lead to the accidental leaking of the secret sanctuary to the outside world. The strange final coincidence that makes Daphne’s life the center of a haunted hurricane is when her favorite musician of all time Zola Tesla dies unexpectedly, and her ghost appears at Rycroft, unsure of how she got there.
VERDICT Filled with likable, sensitive characters, this spookily romantic tale from Grace (Iceman), combined with Keenan’s (Jem and the Holograms) luxurious and expressive art, makes this second in an ongoing series a scrumptious, séance-like delight.
