Biochemist-turned-influencer Inchauspé (
Glucose Revolution) is a favorite of functional nutritionist Will Cole, wellness-focused writers Liz Moody and Kelly Leveque, and celebrities including Jameela Jamil. Her latest book is based on the idea that readers want an easy, approachable, streamlined way to incorporate her advice into their lives, and in this it delivers. However, at times her science seems more like crowd-sourced validation of her hypotheses, and the juxtaposition of her book’s scientific claims with its playful photos of the author’s very slender body can come across as more Insta-worthy than evidence-based. The book overstates and oversimplifies the impact blood sugar has on the body, and some readers will find this flaw difficult to overlook. The book’s general tips (eat more vegetables; incorporate joyful movements) will seem common-sense.
VERDICT The author’s tips and tricks are gentle nudges that she lovingly teaches her fans to enfold in their habits. She does so without judgment or any rigid food rules, which is a welcome approach.
