After Hazel Bristow’s ex-husband cheated on her, bankrupted her, and disappeared, she and her five foster dogs were reduced to living in her friend’s empty house while it’s on the market. When the house sells, millionaire Linc Kennedy moves in to flip it—but no one told Hazel. After the initial fright of finding a strange man in the house wears off, Hazel and Linc strike a deal: if he’ll let her and the dogs stay in the house while he works on it, she’ll cook all his meals. Linc also insists on paying her a salary. The more Hazel and Linc get to know each other, the stronger their attraction. But Hazel is slow to trust after her disastrous marriage, and Linc is hiding his wealth—a secret that’s changed every romantic relationship he’s ever had. This canine-filled romantic comedy features likable protagonists, but exploring their backstories more could have given them additional depth.
VERDICT With its interesting, well-paced plot, dog lovers and rom-com fans will enjoy this drama-free romance from Burton (The Accidental Newlywed Game).
